ORACLE (2022-2024)
Institut National Art contemporain is proud to present Oracle - Detached from Mortal Concerns, an exhibition by Olicorno. The artist draws inspiration from Renaissance painters and collaborates with artificial intelligence to create this new body of abstract work. Combining the wisdom of the past with the promise of the future, Olicorno produces paintings with a mysterious temporality.

Olicorno begins this series with a research phase punctuated by rapid bursts of creativity, aided by new technologies including artificial intelligence and digital drawing. After this effervescent work of research, accumulation and modification of images comes a phase of extremely slow pictorial transposition. Paying homage to the great masters of the Italian Renaissance, Olicorno revisits their techniques.

With Oracle, Olicorno deploys the hyper-realistic painting skills developed in his earlier series to create complex abstract universes. The artist explores new artistic territories that have become attainable through recently accessible technologies, while using techniques from another era. As a result, the artist produces works that inspire slow contemplation, dreaming and contemplation.

The Reign explores the mysteries of power. I sought to symbolically represent the essence of a royal or even papal figure. By using golden hues and textures ranging from light silks to heavy brocades, I aimed to capture not only the majesty but also the weight of this royalty. The painting embodies both elevation and downfall, simultaneous and inseparable, symbols of an ephemeral reign. Here, the beginning and the end coexist, merging in an abstract confrontation, a silent struggle that seems to defy the laws of physics. This cycle of life, where grandeur and decay intertwine, reveals the fragility and inevitable decline of a figure at the height of power.

The verticality and imposing proportions of the work seek to dominate the viewer, who might feel scrutinized from above, under the imperious gaze of this figure. This reign stretches far beyond the canvas, but its shadow reveals the complexity and duality of this domination.
