FEUX-TRANSMUTATIONS (2024-2025)

Feux-Transmutations is part of a deep reflection on the human ability to be the author of one's own transformation, to face challenges, and to be reborn in new forms. Inspired by my experience on Survivor Québec (Noovo, Winter 2024), this series tests the twenty participants, who must constantly call upon their adaptability, resilience, and the fluidity of their personalities to move forward. This adventure invokes processes of mutation that affect both body and mind. Continuously, individual decisions intertwine with those of the group, and the flame becomes a major symbol—an ephemeral yet persistent light, witnessing our metamorphoses.
The hands, central figures in these works, embody the connection between determined action, the gesture embedded in shared experience, and inner transformation. They suggest an autonomous process of mutation, a voluntary reinvention of the self, as if the human being is both the architect and the material of their own evolution. Using artificial intelligence—an already explored tool in the ideation of the Oracle series—I again integrate this technology into my sketching process to push the boundaries of exploration. The hands in the Feux-Transmutations series, with either too many or too few fingers, echo the imperfections of artificial intelligence, reflecting not only the uncertainty and flaws of this modern tool but also the imperfect yet magnificent nature of our technological era. Here, AI becomes a mirror of collective transformation, inevitable and irreversible. |
Feux-Transmutations continues my abstract work, where the use of minimalist symbols invites deep and individual contemplation. While the elements of the series resonate with the adventure I experienced, they transcend the context to evoke universal ideas: the ability to dance with change, to face the unknown with mastery, and to embrace the ephemeral as a necessary step toward self-awareness.
The works do not aim to impose a specific message but to offer an opening, a space for reflection. The hand, the flame, the transformation are no longer just personal symbols but images carrying vast possibilities for interpretation, reminding us of the inalienable force of transformation that drives the survival of all living beings. The first three works of Feux-Transmutations were acquired by dear friends and key players in my Survivor adventure. André, my ally in the game, acquired the first work, a representation of our hands reaching for each other but never touching, evoking our shared will to continue together despite the inevitable chaos that separated us. Patrice Bélanger, the host, and Ghyslain, the season’s winner, acquired the second and third works, symbolizing, in a way, our connection in this unique human journey. |
