Bones (2016-2022)

This series, which took place in two phases, began as an effort from this very body that is too often taken for granted; a tribute to emphasize the harmony, balance, and symmetry found in this infinitely complex temple.
The first version of Bones explored the theme of the body and its verticality. The "standing" position being what has allowed human beings to rise above their animality and attain self-awareness, I see the entire human skeleton as an architecture harboring human consciousness. The first works presented were created for the sake of exploration, aestheticism, and technical improvement. It was merely a question of studying the skeleton in three dimensions, by working on various new points of view on the bodies and its bones. The second phase of the series came with a desire not to simply present bones, but to create compositions in a new sculptural effort. With these arrangements, a spatial dimension is added to the work and it acquires more meaning. Not only do the constructions represent bones, but also a symbolic narrative. They embody various characters more specifically associated with human archetypal concepts. |
The archetypes are essential components of the collective unconscious of all cultures representing a theme structuring the psyche. Each painting in the series touches one of these universal concepts. Bones evokes not only the skeleton as architecture to the flesh but also the constructive psychoanalytic concepts of the human psyche.
